Pineapple is native to Southern Brazil & Paraguay, and used to be called “Pine of the Indies”, only layer renamed Pineapple so Europeans would have some familiarity. There are varying theories as to when pineapple reached the Hawaiian Islands; some dating back to as early as 1815, but most around 1886.
Either way, Hawaii proved to be a perfect climate for pineapple cultivation. Hawaii’s mild climate allows for pineapple production year round!
